WARNING! Coolness alert! I am going to talk a bit about dreams that foretell the future. These little gems are rare occurrences - for me at least - but when they happen, I know I am receiving diamond-studded guidance.
How does it work? Let me give you an example.
On September 23, 2014, I had the following dream:
I am sitting at a table in a dark garage. I watch two cars speed into the garage. They are out of control, and I suspect they have been drinking. A third car comes along. The car is dark green and has a dent on the back bumper. We are simply borrowing these cars, so we need to report the damage. A woman with me calls the "car guy" but he says he will not be coming when we had expected him. She asks, "How about later?" But I hear her say, "Ohhhh..." as if he responded that he may never come. "How about the refrigerator guy?" she asks. That guy will come, she tells me. She walks away, and I pick up her phone to play with it. I read a message on it from her sister, saying she is coming in from Vienna, Austria to visit.
When I woke up, I was uneasy. In dreams, cars for me almost always symbolize the physical body - think of our souls driving around in cars - so the message here was that my body was dented. However, as I sat there, strong and healthy, I wondered - where exactly am I dented? I thought of a range of possible places, but nothing truly resonated with me.
Hint #1 (that your dream may be a premonition): you are comfortable with your analysis of the dream but the message derived does not make sense to your past or present situations.
I was doubly alert because of the presence of the cell phone in the dream. For me, electronics that convey a message - e.g. cell phone, computer screen, radar - are direct messages from my unconscious and/or spiritual guidance. However, I was stumped here too. In the dream, I was holding the phone, which was a good sign that I was accessing the information easily enough, but I did not understand the message.
Hint #2: you see electronics (or other media) with the ability to convey information, such as a computer, cell phone, tablet, radar, television, radio, GPS, etc.
Hint #3: the message conveyed by the information device does not make sense to your present or past.
There was finally this odd mention of Vienna. This came at the very end of the dream, and I was so overwhelmed and frustrated by the dream thus far that I pretty much disregarded this little fact. However, the mention of this city turned out to be critical to the question of WHEN.
Hint #4: something in the dream corresponds to a future event in your waking life. (When I had the dream, I was planning a trip with my friend to Vienna in December.)
At the time, I started to get frustrated and grasp at straws. The risk you run here is that your ego and your fears take over the analysis; it looks like this, "I must be drinking too much! The cars were drunk!" or "I am a terrible person for not treating my body like a temple!" When this guilt-driven response sets in, you've lost control of the analysis. And looking at my notes, that's exactly what I did.
Fast forward to today! If you receive the HMT newsletter, you will know that I injured my back last month. I was home in the US helping my parents move some very heavy boxes, and pop! I was using a walker for almost 10 days and five weeks later, I am still in some pain. After an MRI last week, I learned that I had a herniated disc. My doctor recommended surgery.
If you have ever had a doctor tell you that surgery is in your future, you know the feeling I had. First, defiance - no way! not me! Then, resignation - if I must, I must. Then, uncertainty - I could perhaps live with it, many do, or I could just do the surgery and move on with my life, at least I hope...
It's a tough decision to make. However, you know me! I always know that when I ask for help from my Spirit guides, I will get it. Lo' and behold, this dream popped back into my head.
AHA! NOW IT MAKES SENSE!
Suddenly, I get this dream, and it may provide a helpful heads-up as to the outcome of my predicament. Here's a quick hindsight-analysis:
The 3 cars represented the first 3 weeks of my stay in the US. I was "crazy" busy the first two weeks (two cars), and during the third week (third car), I hurt my back. My friend calls up to my Higher Self - the owner of the car - and hears that it will not be fixed, not now, maybe not ever. From this I know either I may opt to forego the surgery, or even with surgery, my back may never be fully repaired. My inner workings, however, as represented by the refrigerator, would be just fine. The month of December is important to resolution of this situation.
Rosanne Shepler, a licensed professional counselor and psychoanalyst, once told me the unconscious is like a river running through the past, present, and future - our dreams can emerge from any point in this river. Indeed, the experience I described above is but one of the many examples I have of this phenomenon. Rosanne is right!
Once again, to help sniff out these dreams, I look for four things:
- Hint #1: you are comfortable with your analysis of the dream but the message derived does not make sense to your past or present situations.
- Hint #2: you see electronics (or other media) with the ability to convey information, such as a computer, cell phone, tablet, radar, television, radio, GPS, etc.
- Hint #3: the message conveyed by the information device does not make sense to your present or past.
- Hint #4: something in the dream corresponds to a future event in your waking life.
Or, you could just get a Tarot reading and be done with it. Haha, what can I say? This is a Tarot web site, right? There is no guessing in that realm! The future is the future! The outcome, the outcome! Woohoo!
Still, if you are like me and you value all the information that comes into your consciousness, then dream analysis is mighty useful too. I'll take it!
